KEPR-TV:

An explosion and ensuing fire about 8am Tuesday has killed one person in Pendleton. The blast was at the old city hall building, now re-purposed with housing units and office space.

Multiple people reported hearing a very loud explosion blocks away from the building on SE Dorion Avenue. Flames could be seen from the building’s windows. The road was closed in front of the building and power was out in the area. The fire was put out after 2.5 hours and it was expected electricity may be restored before the end of the lunch hour.

Eduardo Quezada, 25, was on the third floor of the building when the explosion happened. Quezada died from injuries suffered in the blast.

Two others are at the emergency department of St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton. Casey Severe, a Pendleton contractor, and Christian Garcia, are both in “stable” condition according to hospital spokesman Larry Blanc.

Pendleton public safety director Stuart Roberts credited firefighters with keeping the blaze from spreading to neighboring buildings.
