UPDATE – Official Press Release from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office – 11:32: a.m.: According to Assistant Sheriff, Major John Horne on the condition of Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron – The Sheriff does not have any broken bones. He does have abrasions and is very sore. He is expected to be released today. The Sheriff is very appreciative of the thoughts and concern he received from the community.
UPDATE 10:25 a.m. – A witness to the accident provided SMNEWSNET with the following description of the accident: “Sheriff Cameron was attending to the patient who was on the tailgate of a Chevrolet s-10 pickup, when the fire truck came on scene and turned to the right too soon after passing wrecked vehicle catching the Sheriff between the tailgate and the side of fire truck. He got pushed through and his lower legs took the hit”.

St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron was taken to a hospital in Leonardtown on Wednesday morning, his agency reported, after he was hit by a firefighting vehicle at the scene of an accident on Pin Cushion Road near Clements.
Cameron was assisting the driver of a lone vehicle involved in the collision shortly after 8 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:06 a.m., on Sept. 23, 2015, Sheriff Cameron was injured while assisting at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Pin Cushion Road.
“He was providing care to the operator of a vehicle,” said the release by Jennifer Stone, the new public affairs officer for the Sheriff. “Fire apparatus approached the scene and struck Sheriff Cameron. As a result of the collision, Sheriff Cameron was injured and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.”

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reconstruction team is on the scene conducting an investigation. Incorrect information has been released that Sheriff Tim Cameron was “struck” with a “firearm.” This information is incorrect. Sheriff Tim Cameron was struck by a firetruck while assisting an injured motorist. More details will be provided as they become available.
