For the third time in less than two days President Donald Trump has used Twitter to vent his anger over the IAFF’s endorsement of former Vice-President Joe Biden. In this tweets, President Trump refers to the “dues sucking union” and continues to make the point that firefighters overwhelmingly support him. In an effort to back up that claim, starting around 6:00 a.m. today (Wednesday) the President re-tweeted almost 60 tweets from supporters claiming to be firefighters and IAFF members.

Business Insider and other news sites reported that one of the RTs backfired a bit. After being retweeted, the person changed their profile to say “Fuck Donald Trump”.

In interviews after Monday’s endorsement announcement, General President Harold Schaitberger explained polling the union did of some of its members.

Allan Smith, NBC News:

Before the union endorsed Biden, it polled Democratic, independent and non-party-identified members, who make up more than 180,000 of its 316,000 members, and they “came out overwhelmingly for Joe,” Schaitberger told NBC News on Monday.

The poll of 1,500 respondents was conducted by Zogby Strategies in mid-month, he said, adding that it did not include Republican union members because it was focused on helping come to a decision about which Democratic nominee to endorse.

The union declined to release the results of the poll. It did not endorse Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.
