KCSO DEPUTY STRUCK BY VEHICLE AT A SCHOOL CROSSING

At approximately 7:10am this morning, one of your KCSO deputies was stuck by a vehicle while directing traffic at Lugoff Elementary School. The deputy had her blue lights on and was wearing her bright yellow reflective jacket. Witnesses estimated the speed of the vehicle at 40 mph in the school zone. The driver did stop and admitted he was looking at his cellphone and not the road when he hit your deputy. SCHP is investigating the incident.

Your deputy was alert and talking before being transported by ambulance to Columbia for treatment. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Deputy Chelsea Cockrell is doing well after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at Lugoff Elementary School this morning. She has been released from the hospital and is on her way home.
