A must see story from Tulsa, OK: The circle is around FF Chad Meyers of Tulsa FD’s Engine 26 as he carries a 55-year-old woman to safety Tuesday morning. Meyers and his crew were guided by a cool and calm dispatcher. Jeff Pestel was on the phone with the woman for ten-minutes until she passed out and then stopped breathing. There have been a number of stories of late about botched 911 calls. This isn’t one of them. DC looking to change way it handles surplus gear: We are told steps are being taken to prevent the selling of surplus DC Fire & EMS Department PPE and uniforms to the public. We have an update on the story we first brought you a week ago. It also includes a link to the DC City Council hearing last week where the gear issue was discussed. The latest in this months long dispute in Western Maryland has the county giving them 7-days to accepts a career firefighter during daylight hours and 90-days to respond again on medical calls. Happy 100th birthday: Some scenes from Sunday’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of the DC Fire & EMS Department’s Engine 21 in Adams Morgan. Truck 9, which was born at the same time as Engine 21 and also used to be at the firehouse at 1763 Lanier Place, NW, was invited back home for the event.
