Fire museum in Brazil

A couple of pictures at the fire museum from our man in Sao Paulo, Vito Maggiolo. I will let him describe them:

The helmet is the one presently used. It is of French design. What I like about it is the blend of the modern and traditional, incorporating the classic front piece with the contemporary helmet.

The second is of the only fire department submarine I have ever seen. It is a mini submersible, but I am told it was never used in active service. The State of Sao Paulo has a number of waterways, including a river that runs thru the heart of the city. There is also a port area protected by two large fireboats.

The official photographer of the DC Fire & EMS Department meets the official photographer of the 2nd Division of the Sao Paulo Fire Department.

Vito has provided us links to two videos from Sao Paulo:

Video 1

Video 2

Here’s Vito’s descriptions of the videos:

The first is your standard fire department activity set to music. The second, set to the song Kung Fu Fighting, is a funny look at the men and women assigned to the Casa Verde fire station, and goes to show that firehouse humor and good fun is the same, wherever you go or language you speak.

These 2 clips are part of an over hour long tribute to the 2nd Division of the Sao Paulo Fire Department shot, produced and edited by Sergeant Edson Dutra, assigned to the Casa Verde station. He is a great guy, who did the project on his own over the course of three months.

As you can see, Edson has some great video talent, and also develops software for fire service use. However, he has declined efforts to get him into administration, because he loves being on the streets. He is a motorcycle first responder.
