Investigators with the city Arson and Bomb Squad have determined the fire destroyed one Forest Park home and damaged three others likely started outside, a Springfield Fire spokesman said.

Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, said investigators have determined the fire started on the ground level outside 28 Wesson St, the 2 ½ story home that was destroyed. The fire would spread to the attic of 912 Belmont Ave., and would ultimately cause damage to two other nearby homes and a garage.

The fire was likely spread out of control so quickly by heavy winds, he said.
