Early video from Texas apartment fire that injured firefighters in stairwell collapse

Early video from Ymmot Soirrab of a fire Saturday at the Hastings Place Apartments on Glenora Drive in Harris County, Texas that left three firefighters injured after the collapse of a stairwell. All firefighters have since been released from the hospital.

Fire crews were attempting to get the blaze at the Hastings Place Luxury Apartments on Glenora Drive under control when a stairwell collapsed, briefly trapping six firefighters under the rubble.

“I looked up and they were saying ‘man down, man down’,” said neighbor Patrick Cantu. “It took them a minute, but they got them out of there.”

Two Cypress Creek firefighters were injured in the collapse; they were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A Cy-Fair firefighter was also hurt while trying to rescue the trapped firefighters. He was also taken to the hospital.

“It’s a very tense situation,” said Lt. George Farrelly of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. “Immediately, a majority of the firefighters’ efforts are going to stop and we are going to focus on safely evacuating those firefighters.”
