DC Sgt. Michael LaCore back to full duty eight months after being critically burned

The picture above is of DC Fire & EMS Sgt. Michael LaCore on December 12 as he drove Engine 6 home from the MedStar Burn Unit of the Washington Hospital Center after an almost 6 week hospitalization. The evening he returned, Sgt. LaCore vowed to return to full firefighting duties. STATter 911 has confirmed with DC fire officials that will happen on Friday.

Sgt. LaCore is scheduled to work at Engine 9 on Friday at the firehouse in the 1600 block of U Street, NW.

Because of his extensive second and third degree burns received in an October 19, 2007 house fire, Sgt. LaCore and others were concerned that doctors might not allow him to return to full duty and DC law would eventually force his retirement from the department. Battalion Chief Kenneth Crosswhite confirms that doctors have now put Sgt. LaCore back on full-duty status.

Recently LaCore has been assigned on light-duty at the training academy.
