UPDATE

This statement was posted on the Forest Grove VFD Facebook page this morning (Tuesday):

We would like to inform the public about the video that went viral yesterday. A resident in our fire local took a video of our engine passing our tender on Main Road while going to a structure fire. While there is much debate on social media about this incident, department protocol was followed. Our tractor trailer tender has limited drivers due class A CDL and training requirements. It also travels at a low rate of speed. The tender drivers are aware that when they arrive at the station, the tender is to be warmed up and water is to be put on the street as soon as possible. This is usually done so as our first piece of apparatus (Quint) is being staffed. There is times when our engine (second piece to respond) hits the street once the tender is already on the road. In the event that this happens, communication between the two drivers is made via radio. The tender is to yield and allow the engine to pass. The engine must have a clear lane of sight and pass with due regard. Both drivers involved yesterday have 35+ years of driving experience. Both hold CDL’s and have completed all training requirements. At no time was department protocol broken nor were posted speed limits broken. Both drivers did act with due regard and did conduct the maneuver safely.

Terry Moore is looking for some answers. He posted this video to YouTube and on the STATter911.com Facebook page this evening. He wants to know if what he captured on video as two rigs responded to a reported basement is a safe practice?

The video shows 43-52, an engine with the Forest Grove VFD in Gloucester County, New Jersey passing 43-54, a 7000 gallon tanker from the same department, on the two lane Main Road in Newfield, New Jersey.

Anyone have some answers for Mr. Moore?
