Raw video above from yesterday’s (Wednesday) fire at the Federated Church of Grass Lake at 519 E. Michigan Avenue in Grass Lake, Michigan. The Grass Lake Township Fire Department was dispatched for a furnace fire around 9:20 a.m.
Arriving at the scene, fire crews observed smoke billowing from the church and entered a utility room through the building’s basement, Grass Lake Township Fire Chief Greg Jones said.
“There was quite a bit of involvement,” Jones said of the flames, which had climbed up the walls and into the floor space above the utility room.
Within an hour, fire breached the church’s attic — and at 10:30 a.m. — the structure was ruled too dangerous for fighters, Columbia Township Fire Chief Shawn Lutz said.
