Snow in your Nation’s Capital: Another fire for PGFD and beefing up staffing in Alexandria, Virginia.

The last I heard from our weather team is that the heavy snow in the Washington area should be in the morning. I know, I know. STATter 911 readers from where it really snows are laughing right now at the weather wimps from Washington.

Waiting for an 11:00 PM live shot (standing in snow, rain, and blowing winds is what we TV professionals are trained to do … don’t you try this at home) the roads here are pretty clear. It has been snowing off and on since late afternoon, but the highways are just wet.

In Maryland, Prince George’s County was busy this evening with a number of wrecks and another fire. This time it was a three-story townhouse with heavy fire on all three floors shortly after 8:00 PM. The initial call at 11260 Westport Drive had a report of a person trapped. PGFD spokesman Mark Brady reports that person is now hospitalized with burns and smoke inhalation. No details yet on how the man got out of the building. The fire was in the first due of Station 818 (Glenn Dale).

In Alexandria, Virginia we have this information on snow staffing from an Alexandria Fire Department press release:

The National Weather Service is predicting snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches with the possibility of 10 inches, starting around 8 pm Sunday and continuing through 8 pm Monday. To prepare for the snow emergency and provide for the safety of residents, visitors and emergency service providers, the Alexandria Fire Department is increasing staffing levels and will be dispatching an engine company to all medical calls. In addition to increasing staffing levels an additional Medic Unit and two support vehicles have been placed in to service.
